SHERIFF'S THIRD YEAR REPORT

I have just completed my third year in office and enter my fourth year with even more enthusiasm than when I started with the Sheriff's Office nearly 29 years ago. I continue to lead a no-nonsense proactive Sheriff's Office with many accomplishments that we are all proud of. My Office has dealt with the public tragedies, disasters and internal adversity with the dignity that the community has grown to expect and that has become a hallmark of your Sheriff's Office. We have handled them swiftly and justly to the letter of the law again proving that the men and women that are the core of this highly professional organization are of the highest integrity. You deserve the best and we continue to give you our best!

Initiatives and accomplishments
Taxes: We have maintained a tight line on all our budgets finishing well into the black every year. A record unsurpassed in recent history.

Services: We have continued to increase the quality of service offered to the public with a reduction in our expenses proportionally applied to the County share drawn from the tax base.

Programs: We have increased the programs offered at no charge to the public including snowmobile, boater and handgun safety courses. We have continued to focus on our youth with the DARE and School Resource Office programs. We have introduced the STOPPED program for young drivers as well as the Law Enforcement Explorer Program.

Employment: We have brought in fifty new employees. This has been accomplished through retirements, promotions and Grant programs. Our staff has been increased at minimal cost, all while working toward legally required staffing levels.

Bringing home the Money: We have landed $2.6 million in Grant money for:

  • 9-11 Center
  • Communications solutions including new radio frequencies & mobile computing
  • Domestic Violence: Pro-Arrest & Victim Protection
  • Tactical equipment for uses including Methamphetamine arrest and surveillance
  • Evidence equipment including total digital photography
  • Completely updated computer and records management system

Custody Division: We continue to prove to be a "Premier Facility" with the ability to attract board in prisoners from Federal and local facilities. this has brought in $5 million to offset our labor expenses. This correlates to an 18% total savings to the taxpayer.

Our safety and security facilities have also been completed at no cost to the taxpayer utilizing the commissions on outgoing inmate telephone calls.

I enjoyed working with the committee and our 2005 candidates promoting a very successful election campaign this past year. Our mission to elect and maintain qualified Republicans in office will continue in 2006. This has not changed in the 38 years that I have dedicated to the Republican Party. There are many more challenges ahead and I look forward to expanding our innovative programs and accomplishments. It is an honor to be in this position and I owe our continued success to the many dedicated men and women that represent the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office. I want to thank you and the entire Cayuga County Republican Committee for your continued confidence and support.

Best wishes for a healthy, safe and prosperous new year.

The "Traditional Sheriff's Clambake" was a huge success and will return by popular demand this year! And...we will have another "Sheriff and His Posse" Golf Tournament. Two events, plenty of fun for all! .
